"I Want to Marry Ryan Banks" is a story about Ryan Banks, a Hollywood star who rises to fame overnight after being asked to act at a party. He convinces his best friend Todd Doherty to become his exclusive manager. However, Ryan's career takes a nosedive after a failed movie, and the firm's boss gives Todd three months to turn things around.
Todd comes up with a plan to stage a reality dating show to pick Ryan's bride from 15 preselected candidates. The show, which is designed to improve Ryan's image, involves the contestants cohabiting with him in a fairy-tale mansion. Charlie Norton from Boston is one of the contestants, entered by her sister and only accepting at Ryan's personal insistence.
As the show progresses, Charlie becomes both Ryan's and the audience's favorite. She discovers that Todd is the one behind Ryan's good answers and is torn between her professional loyalty and personal emotions. Charlie decides to repulse Ryan on the show, but the editing makes it seem like nothing happened.
In the final, Charlie refuses to stay on the show and reveals the truth to Ryan. This leads to Todd being "fired" and the studio threatening to sue Charlie for contract breach. Despite everything, Ryan chooses Charlie on air over another contestant, showing that true love prevails in the end.
