Synopsis

The Return of Martin Guerre

In the village of Artigat in 16th century France, a man named Martin Guerre disappears, leaving his wife Bertrande and young son behind. Years later, a man claiming to be Martin returns to the village, but Bertrande is unsure if he is truly her husband.

The man, who is accepted by most of the villagers as Martin, settles back into his old life with Bertrande and their son. However, doubts begin to arise as inconsistencies in his story and behavior are noticed.

As the truth about the man's identity is revealed, Bertrande must come to terms with the consequences of her actions and decisions.
