The Trial of Ratko Mladic
In 2011, Ratko Mladic, the former Bosnian Serb general, was arrested after years on the run. He was charged with war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity for his role in the Bosnian War in the 1990s.
The trial of Ratko Mladic began in 2012 at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Netherlands.
During the trial, witnesses testified about the atrocities committed by Mladic's forces, including the Srebrenica massacre where over 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were killed.
In 2017, Ratko Mladic was found guilty on 10 out of 11 charges and sentenced to life in prison.
This trial was seen as a landmark case in international justice, holding a high-ranking military official accountable for his actions during a conflict.
