Synopsis

Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks is a documentary film directed by Wang Bing that explores the decline of the industrial city of Shenyang in northeastern China.

The film is divided into three parts, each focusing on a different aspect of the city's transformation. The first part, "Rust," follows the daily lives of workers in a decaying factory as they struggle to make ends meet.

The second part, "Remnants," examines the abandoned buildings and infrastructure left behind as the city's industries collapse.

The final part, "Rails," looks at the impact of the closure of the city's railway system on the local community.

Through intimate interviews and observational footage, Tie Xi Qu: West of the Tracks offers a poignant portrait of a city in decline and the human cost of industrial collapse.
