Synopsis

West of Memphis is a documentary film that tells the story of three teenagers who were wrongfully convicted of murder in West Memphis, Arkansas in 1993.

The film follows the case of Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley, who became known as the West Memphis Three. They were accused of killing three young boys in a supposed satanic ritual.

Despite a lack of physical evidence linking them to the crime, the three teenagers were convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Over the years, new evidence emerged that pointed to the innocence of the West Memphis Three. The film explores the efforts of their supporters, including celebrities like Johnny Depp and Eddie Vedder, to bring attention to the case and secure their release.

After spending 18 years in prison, the West Memphis Three were finally released in 2011 after entering an Alford plea, which allowed them to maintain their innocence while acknowledging that there was enough evidence for a conviction.

West of Memphis sheds light on the flaws in the justice system that led to the wrongful conviction of these three teenagers and the impact it had on their lives.
