Synopsis

Winter is a novel written by Ali Smith that tells the story of a family coming together during the Christmas season. The novel follows the lives of four characters: Sophia, Art, Lux, and Iris, who are all dealing with their own personal struggles.

As the family gathers for the holidays, tensions rise and secrets are revealed. Sophia, the matriarch of the family, is struggling with the recent death of her sister and the realization that she is getting older. Art, Sophia's son, is dealing with a failing relationship and the pressure to succeed in his career.

Lux, Art's girlfriend, is a political activist who is passionate about social justice issues. Iris, Sophia's estranged sister, unexpectedly shows up at the family gathering, bringing with her a sense of mystery and intrigue.

Throughout the novel, the characters confront their pasts and come to terms with their present circumstances. As the snow falls outside, the family must navigate their relationships and find a way to connect with each other. Winter explores themes of family, love, loss, and the passage of time.
