Synopsis

In Scotland, the successful American band The Make formed by the singer Adam and the keyboard player Tyko will participate at T in the Park Festival.

When they meet the girls from the band The Dirty Pinks, Adam has an argument with the lead singer Morello. A preacher separates them and asks the two bands to pray together.

Out of the blue, he handcuffs Adam and Morello and leaves the place in a golf cart. When The Dirty Pinks have to perform, Adam participates with the group and their show is a success.

They are forced to spend the night together and his girlfriend Lake and her boyfriend Mark stay with them. But soon they feel that Adam and Morello are connected not only by the handcuffs.

The contrast between the music styles of The Make and The Dirty Pinks in the film creates a dynamic and interesting musical backdrop that mirrors the clash and eventual harmony between the characters.

Stephanie Wright
1/10

The soundtrack of You Instead felt disjointed and lacking coherence, with a mix of different music genres that didn't quite fit together seamlessly. It was hard to get a sense of a consistent musical identity throughout the film.

Charles Thomas
2/10

While some individual songs in the soundtrack were catchy, overall the music didn't leave a lasting impression. It failed to enhance the emotional impact of key scenes and often felt like background noise rather than a significant part of the storytelling.

Brian Young
6/10

The soundtrack effectively conveys the theme of unexpected connections and relationships that develop under unusual circumstances, enhancing the storytelling aspect of the movie.

2/10

The incorporation of live performances by the bands within the film felt forced and at times even awkward. It seemed like a missed opportunity to showcase the musical talents of the characters in a more organic and meaningful way, leaving the audience feeling underwhelmed by the overall musical experience of the movie.
