Zombi Child is a French drama film directed by Bertrand Bonello. The story follows a teenage girl named Fanny who attends an elite boarding school in Paris. Fanny befriends a new student named Melissa, who reveals that she is the descendant of Haitian slaves and practices voodoo.
As Melissa shares the story of her deceased grandfather who was turned into a zombie by a voodoo priest, Fanny becomes fascinated by the idea of raising the dead. She convinces Melissa to perform a voodoo ritual to resurrect her crush, a boy named Pablo who recently died in a car accident.
The film explores themes of cultural appropriation, colonialism, and the legacy of slavery through the lens of a supernatural story. Zombi Child blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, leaving the audience questioning the consequences of tampering with forces beyond our control.
