Sinopsis

En 1957, en Detroit, se construye un Plymouth Fury rojo que es la causa de dos accidentes, uno de ellos fatal, aún en la línea de ensamblaje.

Veintiún años después, el marginado y acosado nerd Arnold "Arnie" Cunningham está dando un paseo con su mejor y único amigo Dennis Guilder y ve el coche destrozado a la venta en un jardín.

Arnie se enamora inmediatamente del coche. El coche fue bautizado con el nombre de Christine por su primer propietario.

Lleva el coche a un taller de reparación del despreciable Will Darnell y trabaja duro para restaurar el coche clásico.

Mientras trabaja en la restauración, su personalidad cambia a la de un adolescente engreído y sale con la chica más guapa de la escuela, Leigh Cabot.

Pronto Arnie se vuelve egoísta y celoso de la sobrenatural Christine que mata a todos los que son una amenaza para ellos.
