Sinopsis
Freddie Clegg no está seguro de si puede llevar a cabo su plan para "ella" hasta que se topa con una casa aislada en venta en el campo inglés, la casa que ve mientras está recolectando mariposas.
La "ella" es Miranda Grey, una estudiante de arte con sede en Londres, el plan es secuestrarla y mantenerla cautiva. Al igual que ama a sus mariposas, Freddie ama a Miranda, pero desde lejos. En su mente, su amor por ella se basa en el respeto por ella como persona y no en la lujuria física.
Entonces, cuando logra secuestrarla y mantenerla como rehén en el sótano de su casa recién comprada, ella, sin saber quién es él, se sorprende de que no esté buscando dinero de rescate ni intentando agredirla sexualmente o violarla.
Él intenta respetar sus deseos, excepto el deseo más importante de dejarla ir. Mientras ella intenta entender qué es lo que él quiere de ella, negocian los términos de su cautiverio. Mientras tanto, ella intenta escapar de la mejor manera posible manteniendo su seguridad estando en la precaria posición de ser cautiva.
