Sinopsis
Phar Lap, el legendario caballo de carreras australiano, es tan conocido hoy por su misteriosa muerte como por sus fabulosos logros en la vida. Comenzando por el final, la película recuerda el día en que Phar Lap, a pesar de su falta de pedigrí, fue comprado por impulso por el entrenador Harry Telford. Phar Lap pierde sus primeras carreras, pero la fe de Telford en el animal es inquebrantable. De repente, el caballo se convierte en un ganador, gracias al amor y la diligencia del mozo de cuadra Tommy Woodcock. El promotor estadounidense Dave Davis hace los arreglos para que Phar Lap se inscriba en varias carreras importantes, donde su estatus de "posibilidad remota" resulta en grandes pérdidas para los jugadores profesionales. Justo después de ganar una carrera importante en México, Phar Lap se derrumba y muere; aunque la película nunca sale y dice tanto, se supone que el caballo fue "asesinado" por los intereses del juego.
