Sinopse
Phar Lap, o lendário cavalo de corrida australiano, é hoje tão conhecido por sua misteriosa morte quanto por suas fabulosas realizações na vida. Começando no final, o filme volta ao dia em que Phar Lap, apesar de sua falta de pedigree, é comprado por impulso pelo treinador Harry Telford. Phar Lap perde suas primeiras corridas, mas a fé de Telford no animal é inabalável. De repente, o cavalo se torna um vencedor, graças ao amor e à diligência do cavalariço Tommy Woodcock. O promotor americano Dave Davis consegue que Phar Lap participe de várias corridas importantes, onde seu status de "tiro longo" resulta em pesadas perdas para os jogadores profissionais. Logo depois de vencer uma corrida importante no México, Phar Lap desmaia e morre; embora o filme nunca saia e diga isso, presume-se que o cavalo foi "assassinado" pelos interesses do jogo.
