Charlie Harrison has had his eye on Wendy for years. She will talk with him only because he is friends with Keith, a guitarist and lead singer with the local band.
Charlie would love to show Wendy that he plays a mean guitar, but he has had trouble accumulating enough money to buy a good one.
Opportunity comes knocking when Keith has a record producer coming to view the band just when his venue falls through. As luck would have it, Charlie's parents plan to be out of town for few days.
He decides he can host the band in his beach-side house for the recording agent and earn some money on the side by providing concessions. He has to get Kathleen, his strait-laced sister, out the way.
He manages that by stealing her diary and finding out that she is in lust with one of the lifeguards. He sets up a driving date that will take her far out of the way.
With everything set, Keith and his band set up their show. Wendy has come and is thrilled when Charlie introduces her to Keith.
Keith takes her to a quiet room and makes some unwanted advances on her. She boots him and leaves.
Some beach brutes crash the party, and a fight breaks out. Keith hurts his hand in slugging one of the instigators.
About that time, Charlie's parents return unexpectedly, with the record producer in tow (assisting his mother, who has suffered a nervous breakdown). Charlie volunteers to play the guitar parts for the injured Keith.
He does so well that the recording agent signs the band on the condition that Charlie be included. Wendy is won over by Charlie's guitar skills and sensitivity.
