Synopsis

Une plongée dans les coulisses, entre fin mars et mi-octobre 2008 : nous suivons la tentative malheureuse de Richard Fuld pour sauver Lehman Brothers; les conversations entre Hank Paulson (Secrétaire du Trésor), Ben Bernanke (président de la Réserve fédérale) et Tim Geithner (président de la Fed de New York) alors qu'ils cherchent une solution privée pour Lehman; et les négociations en coulisses entre Paulson, Warren Buffet, des banquiers d'investissement, un régulateur britannique et des membres du Congrès alors que presque tous travaillent pour sauver l'économie américaine. À la fin, avec le renflouement sans conditions arrangé, une confiance modeste restaurée à Wall Street et une crise évitée, Paulson se demande si les banques prêteront.
