Three painful years after the tragedy that shocked the inhabitants of Bomont, Georgia, former gymnast Ren McCormack, a big-city teenager from Boston, relocates to the small rural town only to taste a hearty slice of culture shock.
And in the aftermath of a tragic accident, Ren tries to find his feet and stay out of trouble as he takes an immediate interest in beautiful Ariel Moore, the daughter of the community's fire-and-brimstone preacher.
However, in a small town where its inhabitants have imposed a complete ban on Rock 'n' Roll and dancing, trying to fit in is easier said than done.
Now, to convince the city council to lift the ban on dancing, Ren has no choice but to fight prejudice from within and organise the perfect teenage rebellion.
But can Ren restore joy in the sad town and give the high school students what they long for?
