Sinossi
Nel profondo delle montagne del Giappone è prevista la costruzione di una diga, costringendo così il trasferimento degli agricoltori. Uno di loro è Denzo, 78 anni, il cui figlio e sua moglie lo considerano senile. Rimasto solo, fa amicizia con un ragazzo, Sentaro, che ha sentito dire che il vecchio era un tempo un grande pescatore. L'improbabile coppia trascorre un sacco di tempo felice insieme, fino a quando Denzo ha un attacco di cuore e muore molto a monte. La diga è completata e l'intera area è inondata. Tutti si allontaneranno, tranne Denzo.
