Sinopsis
En lo profundo de las montañas de Japón está programada la construcción de una presa, lo que obligará a la reubicación de los agricultores. Uno de ellos es Denzo, de 78 años, cuyo hijo y su esposa lo consideran senil. Al quedarse solo, se hace amigo de un joven, Sentaro, que ha oído que el anciano fue una vez un gran pescador. La improbable pareja pasa mucho tiempo feliz juntos, hasta que Denzo sufre un infarto y muere río arriba. La presa está terminada y toda el área está inundada. Todos se alejarán, excepto Denzo.
