London, 1971 - Flower Power está en declive y el trovador hippie Brian Slade se siente anticuado y fuera de lugar hasta que experimenta el poder crudo del músico de rock y exhibicionista Curt Wild en un concierto en vivo. Enamorado e inspirado, Slade resurge de las cenizas del brocado fastidioso, reencarnando como el ambiguo Dios/diosa del pop-rock de polvo de platino y plumas de fénix, Maxwell Demon.
