Designer and divorced mother Helena's daughter Maria Eduarda is beautiful young woman who is in love with Marcelo, who must endure the persecution of his former girlfriend Laura. Marcelo's mother Branca, a despot who loves to manipulate others and worships eldest son Marcelo but doesn't care for her other children Milena and Leonardo, disagrees with Marcelo's choice. Branca controls the life of Isabel, who has an affair with Atilio, an architect and widower. Branca has long been in love with Atilio and is angry to learn that he fell in love with Eduarda's mother, Helena. After brief romances, Helena marries Atilio and Eduarda marries Marcelo. Mother and daughter get pregnant at the same time and give birth on the same day at the hospital under the supervision of young doctor Cesar, a man who has always been in love with Eduarda. Helena's son is born healthy, but Eduarda has complications during birth and the baby is stillborn; unfortunately, she needs a hysterectomy so will never have any other babies.
