Synopsis

Ascension is an ambitious original drama following a covert U.S. space mission launched in the 1960's that sent hundreds of men, women and children on a century-long voyage aboard the starship Ascension to populate a new world.

Half way into their journey, as they approach the point of no return, the mysterious murder of a young woman causes the ship's population to question the true nature of their mission.

The series features the confident and capable First Officer Aaron Gault, the eponymous ship's Captain William Denninger, and Viondra Denninger, the captain's beautiful, manipulative and dangerous wife (who also serves as the ship's Chief Steward).

Also included are Chief Astronomer Emily Vanderhaus, the ship's head doctor Juliet Bryce, the doctor's daughter, Nora Bryce, and Nora's love interest, James Toback.

Paul Garcia
4/10

The jarring transitions between different musical styles and tones within the same episode often disrupted the flow of the narrative, pulling me out of the story rather than immersing me further into the world of Ascension. The inconsistent musical choices detracted from the overall cohesion of the series and left me feeling disconnected from the characters and their struggles.

The soundtrack of Ascension sets the tone perfectly for the mysterious and suspenseful atmosphere of the series. The use of eerie synths and haunting melodies creates a sense of unease that lingers throughout the show.

While the soundtrack of Ascension is atmospheric and moody, at times it feels repetitive and lacks variety. Some scenes could benefit from more dynamic and diverse musical cues to further engage the audience and elevate the storytelling.

The soundtrack of Ascension failed to capture the suspense and intrigue of the plotline. The music felt generic and uninspired, lacking the depth and emotional complexity needed to enhance the storytelling.

I found the repetitive use of certain musical motifs throughout the series to be tiresome and monotonous. The lack of variety in the soundtrack made it difficult to stay engaged with the unfolding drama, diminishing the overall viewing experience.

The music of Ascension seamlessly blends futuristic electronic elements with classic orchestral arrangements, creating a unique and immersive listening experience. The combination of different musical styles perfectly mirrors the dual nature of the ship's mission and the conflicting emotions of its passengers.
