Synopsis

Bad Taste is a 1987 New Zealand science fiction comedy horror film directed, written, produced, photographed and co-edited by and starring Peter Jackson, who also made most of the makeup and special effects. Produced on a low budget, it is Jackson's first feature film. It is also the first film in Jackson's filmography in which his passion for movie-making is readily apparent.

The film follows a group of friends who defend their New Zealand hometown from a group of alien invaders. The friends are played by Jackson and his crew. Jackson plays two roles, Derek and Robert, while his friends play Frank, Ozzy, and Barry. The film was shot on weekends over a four-year period, with the group using their spare time and money to complete the film.

Bad Taste was released to mixed reviews but has since gained a cult following. It is known for its over-the-top gore and humor, as well as its inventive use of low-budget special effects. The film's success helped launch Jackson's career, leading to his later work on films such as Braindead and The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

On the other hand, some may find the soundtrack of Bad Taste to be a bit too disjointed and jarring. The eclectic mix of genres and styles can sometimes feel overwhelming and distracting, taking away from the immersion in the story. While the music certainly adds to the film's quirky charm, it may not be to everyone's taste and could potentially alienate some viewers.
