Synopsis

Bang Bang Baby is a story set in 1963 small-town Canada, where shy teenager Stepphy Holliday dreams of becoming a famous singer. She looks after her alcoholic father George and works at his service station, dreaming of stardom.

Despite her wallflower status, Stepphy has two young men vying for her affections: her classmate Bennett and young-adult Fabian, who works at the Purple Mist factory. With Bennett's help, Stepphy enters the American Ingenue Talent Competition, making it to the first round with her audition tape.

Against George's wishes, Stepphy must make her way to New York City for the competition. However, her plans change when her idol, singing film star Bobby Shore, and his manager Helmut get stranded in town. Stepphy decides to make Bobby fall in love with her to enter showbusiness.

Meanwhile, a chemical leak at Purple Mist could have unfortunate consequences for the townsfolk, adding a layer of tension to Stepphy's pursuit of her dreams.
