Being 17 tells the story of French army rescue helicopter pilot Nathan Delille's son, Damien Delille, who is a model student in his Alpine village school.
He takes self-defense lessons from veteran neighbor Paolo to defend himself against class bully Thomas Chardoul, the adopted son of petty cattle farmers Jacques and Christine Chardoul.
When the principal punishes both Damien and Thomas for fighting, Damien's mother, local Dr. Marianne Delille, takes Thomas in after diagnosing his mother as pregnant.
The boys are forced to pretend to be friends, but they bond over their shared secrets, including Damien's crush on Tom, who becomes a class champion with home tutoring.
As their fights become irrelevant and they are separated, they reunite intimately after a family tragedy.
