Synopsis

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME, the new film by Luca Guadagnino, is a sensual and transcendent tale of first love, based on the acclaimed novel by André Aciman.

It's the summer of 1983 in the north of Italy, and Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet), a precocious 17-year-old young man, spends his days in his family's 17th-century villa transcribing and playing classical music, reading, and flirting with his friend Marzia (Esther Garrel).

Elio enjoys a close relationship with his father (Michael Stuhlbarg), an eminent professor specializing in Greco-Roman culture, and his mother Annella (Amira Casar), a translator, who favor him with the fruits of high culture in a setting that overflows with natural delights.

While Elio's sophistication and intellectual gifts suggest he is already a fully-fledged adult, there is much that yet remains innocent and unformed about him, particularly about matters of the heart.

One day, Oliver (Armie Hammer), a 24-year-old American college graduate student working on his doctorate, arrives as the annual summer intern tasked with helping Elio's father.

Amid the sun-drenched splendor of the setting, Elio and Oliver discover the heady beauty of awakening desire over the course of a summer that will alter their lives forever.

The soundtrack of Call Me by Your Name failed to capture the emotional depth and complexity of the characters' experiences. The music felt disconnected from the story and at times even distracting, taking away from the film's overall impact.

Melissa Hernandez
1/10

The choice of songs in the soundtrack did not resonate with the time period and setting of the film. The anachronistic music pulled me out of the immersive experience of watching a story set in 1983 Italy, making it difficult to fully engage with the narrative.

Donna Roberts
6/10

The soundtrack of Call Me by Your Name perfectly captures the nostalgic and romantic atmosphere of the film, transporting the listener to the summer of 1983 in Italy.

Kimberly Clark
3/10

While some individual tracks in the soundtrack were pleasant to listen to, as a whole, the musical selection lacked cohesion and failed to enhance the overall mood and atmosphere of the film. The music felt like an afterthought rather than a carefully curated element that complemented the visuals and emotions portrayed on screen.

David Hernandez

The use of classical music in the soundtrack enhances the elegance and sophistication portrayed in the film, creating a sense of timelessness that resonates with the themes of first love and self-discovery.

Each track in the film's soundtrack feels like a carefully chosen piece of a larger puzzle, contributing to the overall mood and enhancing the audience's connection to the characters and their experiences.

8/10

The use of music in Call Me by Your Name is so integral to the storytelling that it almost becomes a character in itself, guiding the audience through the characters' journey of self-discovery and transformation.

Carol Green
5/10

Overall, the soundtrack of Call Me by Your Name is a work of art in itself, enhancing the film's narrative and emotional resonance with its carefully curated selection of music.
