Synopsis

Crossing Delancey is a story about Isabelle (Amy Irving), a young independent woman who works in a bookstore. She regularly meets with her friends and spends time with her Jewish "Bubbie" (grandmother--wonderfully played by Reizl Bozyk), who believes it's sad that Isabelle doesn't have a man in her life.

Bubbie decides to hire a marriage broker to find a match for Isabelle, and she ends up being set up with Sam Posner (Peter Riegert), a pickle salesman. Isabelle, however, is more interested in writer Anton Maes (Jeroen Krabbé), who does readings at her bookstore. When she first meets Sam at Bubbie's apartment, she declines his offer to take her out.

Despite Isabelle's initial disinterest, Sam is persistent and slowly wins her over. As Isabelle starts to warm up to Sam, she realizes that maybe Anton Maes isn't as great as she thought. She even sets Sam up with her friend Ricky, but as she spends more time with Sam, she begins to develop feelings for him.
