Synopsis

Devil in a Blue Dress is set in 1948 in LA and follows Ezekiel "Easy" Rawlins, an African-American World War II veteran, who is searching for employment.

At a friend's bar, Easy meets a white man named DeWitt Albright, who hires him to locate a missing white woman, Daphne Monet, believed to be hiding in LA's Black community.

Daphne Monet is engaged to wealthy mayoral candidate Todd Carter and frequents Black jazz clubs in LA.

Easy agrees to help Albright, but soon finds himself entangled in a web of murder, corrupt police, political intrigue, and violent criminals.

This novel is a Chandler-esque mystery with a focus on African-American experiences.
