Once, he was on top of the world as a popular child actor on television. Now, he's the Hollywood joke about everything that's wrong with people who were famous as kids. All Dickie Roberts wants to do is find that gig that will restore his honor and everyone's love for him, so after learning that Rob Reiner is making an ambitious new movie destined to sweep the Oscars, Dickie is first in line. line up to audition. He leaves after learning that he sure looks good, but can't act...yet, due to his very unusual childhood. In order to investigate the role, Dickie embarks on a bizarre plan to live with a suburban family to see how the average American child lives, causing them to consider him his "son". But once he takes off the gloves, Dickie discovers how wonderful he is part of a real family, and whether he gets the part or not, his attempt at method acting is sure to change his life forever.
