Synopsis

Flags of Our Fathers is a story set in 1945, during a violent battle on the sacred Iwo Jima island where twelve thousand Japanese soldiers were defending twenty square kilometers.

When the Marines reach Mount Suribachi, five Marines and one Navy Corpsman raise their flag on the top, turning the picture into a symbol of hope in post Great Depression America.

The government brings the three survivors to America to raise funds for war, making them heroes of the war and bringing hope to desolate people.

However, the traumatized trio struggles with the image built by their superiors and have difficulty dealing with sharing the heroism with their mates.
