Floundering is a scathing and subversive social comedy that dissects life in post-riot Los Angeles through the eyes of John Boyz, an unemployed thirty-something flounderer on Venice Beach.
John is struggling to figure out what to do with his life, unable to shake off his chronic insomnia and impending sense of doom. Despite his desire to help people, he is immobilized and unable to take any meaningful action.
As an avid observer, John uses binoculars to make sense of the alienation and disaffection in his neighborhood. He meticulously chronicles the mundane details of his life in his journal, desperate to keep one meaningless day from blending into the next.
Compulsively watching homemade videos of the LA riots, John searches for a clue amidst the unraveling social fabric of the city. Now, it is John Boyz's own threadbare life that is about to unravel.
