Synopsis

Hairspray is a story about Tracy Turnblad, a teenager who is obsessed with the Corny Collins Show. Every day after school, she and her best friend Penny watch the show and admire the hot Link Larkin. Tracy's mother Edna is not happy about this.

When one of the stars of the show leaves, Corny Collins holds auditions for the next teen regular. Tracy, with the help of her friend Seaweed, is chosen for the show. This angers the evil dance queen Amber Von Tussle and her mother Velma.

Tracy realizes that it's unfair that black kids can only dance on the show once a month on "Negro Day." With the help of Seaweed, Link, Penny, Motormouth Maybelle, her father, and Edna, Tracy decides to integrate the show without ruining her hairstyle.
