Synopsis

Harlem Nights is a 1989 American crime comedy film written, executive produced, and directed by Eddie Murphy. The film stars Murphy, Richard Pryor, and Redd Foxx in a story about a Harlem nightclub in the 1930s. The film also features Danny Aiello, Michael Lerner, Della Reese, and Murphy's brother Charlie Murphy.

The film received negative reviews from critics but was a box office success, grossing over $95 million worldwide. Despite the mixed reception, Harlem Nights has since gained a cult following and is considered a classic in the comedy genre.

The film follows the story of Sugar Ray (played by Murphy) and his adopted son Quick (played by Pryor) as they run a successful nightclub in Harlem. When a gangster named Bugsy Calhoune (played by Lerner) tries to take over their business, Sugar Ray and Quick must use their wit and street smarts to outsmart him and protect their livelihood.
