Synopsis

Howards End is a novel by E.M. Forster that explores the social and economic divisions in Edwardian England. The story follows three families: the wealthy and conservative Wilcoxes, the intellectual and idealistic Schlegels, and the working-class Basts.

At the center of the novel is the country house, Howards End, which becomes a symbol of the interconnectedness of the characters and their differing worldviews. The Schlegel sisters, Margaret and Helen, become involved with the Wilcox family through a series of events that test their beliefs and values.

As the story unfolds, themes of class, gender, and morality are explored, culminating in a dramatic climax that forces the characters to confront their own prejudices and biases. Howards End is a powerful and thought-provoking novel that continues to resonate with readers today.
