"I Love Trouble" follows the story of Stuart Bailey, a suave private investigator based in Los Angeles, who is known for his quick wit and banter with his faithful secretary/assistant Hazel Bixby.
He is hired by public official Ralph Johnson, who has received two threatening notes from an anonymous sender. The sender claims to have information about Johnson's wife, Jane Breegar, and her shady past. Despite believing in Jane's innocence, Johnson wants Bailey to uncover the truth behind the notes.
During his investigation, Bailey discovers that Jane has a past as a showgirl and that her former boss, Keller, is willing to use violence to find her. He also meets Norma Shannon, who claims to be Jane's long-lost sister.
As Bailey delves deeper into the case, he becomes a target for various individuals who are after him for different reasons. Some are seeking Jane, while others are trying to conceal the truth. The mystery unfolds as Bailey navigates through a web of deceit and danger.
