Lethal Weapon 2 follows Riggs and Murtaugh as they attempt to take down drug dealers who are more dangerous than they initially thought. These dealers are armed with automatic weapons and helicopters, making the task more challenging.
After seizing one of their vehicles, they discover a million dollars worth of gold coins or Krugerrands in the trunk. Murtaugh is later threatened by the men they are pursuing, leading the Captain to reassign them to protect a man named Leo Getz, who is set to testify in a significant case.
When they reach Leo, an attempt is made on his life, revealing that he has laundered half a billion dollars worth of drug money. Leo takes them to a location where they are ambushed, and they later discover that the attackers work for the South African consulate and have diplomatic immunity.
Despite deducing that these men are the ones they have been searching for, they are unable to take action due to their diplomatic immunity. The situation becomes more complicated as they realize the extent of the threat they are facing.
