Synopsis

Love in the Time of Cholera is a story set in Colombia just after the Great War. An old man falls from a ladder and, as he is dying, he professes great love for his wife. After the funeral, a man calls on the widow, but she dismisses him angrily.

Flash back more than 50 years to the day Florentino Ariza, a telegraph boy, falls in love with Fermina Daza, the daughter of a mule trader. Ariza is persistent, writing her constantly, serenading her, and speaking poetically of love. However, her father tries to keep them apart, and eventually, Fermina sees this love as an illusion. She ends up marrying Urbino, a cultured physician.

For years, Ariza carries a torch for Fermina, finding solace in the arms of other women but loving none. After Urbino's death, Ariza wonders if his hopes for a future with Fermina are delusional.

On the other hand, some may find the soundtrack of Love in the Time of Cholera to be a bit too melancholic and repetitive at times. While it effectively conveys the longing and unrequited love theme of the story, the lack of variety in musical themes may lead to a sense of monotony for some listeners.

The music did little to enhance the emotional depth of the story, feeling disjointed and out of sync with the characters' journey of love, loss, and longing. It missed the opportunity to elevate pivotal moments with impactful melodies.
