Synopsis

Metropolitan is a story set during the Christmas season in New York City, where the deb ball season is in full swing. Many people outside of the upper class are unaware that these deb balls still exist.

After attending a dance, Tom Townsend is invited to a gathering of the Sally Fowler Rat Pack (SFRP), a group of ball attendees who consider themselves part of the urban haute bourgeoisie (UHB).

Tom, who comes from a different background, lives with his mother after his parents' split. He is straightforward and socially unaware, with a different mentality from the SFRP members.

Despite his differences, Tom is invited to join the group to balance out the genders. He is mentored by the group's alpha male, Nick Smith, who likes Tom but dislikes Rick Von Sloneker, Serena's boyfriend.

As the deb ball season progresses, the group faces questions about the future of their lifestyle and whether they want to continue living as they do.

The music in Metropolitan sets the tone for each scene, creating a sense of tension, romance, or contemplation as needed to drive the story forward.

Donna Roberts

The music did not effectively convey the tension and complexities of the relationships within the Sally Fowler Rat Pack (SFRP) and missed the opportunity to enhance the character development.

George Clark

Overall, the music in Metropolitan fell short of creating a compelling and immersive auditory experience that could have enriched the storytelling and emotional depth of the film.

Joshua Hernandez
7/10

The classical pieces used in the soundtrack add a timeless quality to the film, emphasizing the contrast between the old-world traditions of the UHB and the modernity of the characters' conflicts.

Patricia Baker
5/10

While the soundtrack of Metropolitan effectively sets the tone for the film, I found myself wishing for a bit more variety in the musical choices. The classical pieces, while fitting for the setting, became somewhat repetitive as the story progressed. Incorporating modern or contemporary pieces could have added depth and contrast to the soundtrack, reflecting the clash of cultures and values portrayed in the narrative.

Donald White
