Synopsis

What it takes to go over the edge, on the edge; to master the art of freestyle, while defying the laws of gravity; Featuring music by Jahmbi.

Long before most skateboarders inhabit the Yucca Valley skate park, but already there are boards and bikes on the ground, with a film crew nearby. Robert Coffie has picked the rural desert area as the location for On the Edge, his documentary about BMX and skateboarding.

Skateboarding and extreme cycling made their way into the mainstream sports realm when ESPN launched the first X Games competition in 1995. Since then, both sports, along with surfing and snowboarding, have been televised every year during the winter and summer X Games.

Recognizing the popularity of cycling and skating in local culture, Coffie and his film crew headed out to the local skate park around 7 a.m. Aug. 6. The crew, including Macile Reevis, wife of actor Steve Reevis, shot raw footage before making its way to the BMX track to continue filming.
