In addition to her new job as a counselor at St. Thomas Church, Kara works as a server at a restaurant alongside her fiancé Tyler, the manager. Tyler is clean and sober having emerged from a life of substance abuse, exacerbated by what was a toxic relationship with his then girlfriend Elle, who went into rehab for that substance abuse. Kara is surprised to discover that Elle is Isabelle, her latest client at the church and the daughter of the city's Police Chief, she, now out of rehab, having gone into this counseling on the want of her father, a congregant. Kara comes to the realization that Elle coming into her life was probably not an accident as her end goal seems to be to resume that "bad boy/bad girl" life with Tyler in she further inserting herself into their lives through manipulation. Elle's path to resuming that life with Tyler requires getting Kara out of the way, seemingly through harassment, although all of those acts of harassment seem to be a case of "she said/she said" in Kara trying to prove that it is Elle behind these acts, especially difficult with the Police Chief on his daughter's side in he believing he knowing best how to handle her recovery. The questions then become how far Elle will go to get Kara out of the way, and if it gets to that point how far Kara will go to protect her life with Tyler.
