Synopsis

Reality Bites is a study of Generation X manners, following the story of Lelaina Pierce (Winona Ryder), the valedictorian of her college class. She camcords her friends in a mock documentary of post-education life.

Troy Dyer (Ethan Hawke) is Lelaina's best friend, a perpetually unemployed musical slacker. Vickie Miner (Janeane Garofalo) is a manager at the Gap who worries about the results of an A.I.D.S. test, while Sammy Gray (Steve Zahn) struggles with his sexuality.

When Lelaina meets Michael Grates (Ben Stiller), an earnest video executive who takes her homemade video to his MTV-like station, she must decide what she values - the materialism of yuppie Michael or the philosophical musings of Troy.

5/10

The soundtrack of Reality Bites perfectly captures the essence of Generation X with its mix of alternative rock and indie music. The songs chosen for the film reflect the struggles and aspirations of young adults trying to find their way in the world. The music enhances the emotional depth of the characters' stories and adds layers of meaning to their experiences.

Melissa Davis
9/10

The soundtrack of Reality Bites is a nostalgic trip back to the 90s, featuring iconic tracks from bands like U2, Lisa Loeb, and The Knack. The music not only sets the tone for the era but also serves as a time capsule of the cultural influences that shaped the characters' lives in the film.

Joseph Lopez
9/10

The music in Reality Bites enhances the emotional depth of the characters and their relationships, adding another layer of authenticity to their struggles and triumphs. The soundtrack acts as a powerful storytelling device, creating a rich and immersive viewing experience.

Michael Wright
1/10

I found that the songs in Reality Bites did not enhance the emotional depth of the scenes. Instead of adding to the mood and atmosphere, the soundtrack often felt disconnected and distracting, taking away from the overall viewing experience.

William Mitchell
6/10

On the other hand, while the soundtrack is undeniably fitting for the film's themes and characters, some of the song choices can feel a bit cliché or overused for a movie about the 90s. It would have been interesting to hear more obscure or lesser-known tracks that still captured the spirit of the era. Overall, the soundtrack of Reality Bites is a solid complement to the film, but could have pushed the boundaries a bit more creatively.

10/10

The soundtrack of Reality Bites perfectly captures the essence of Generation X with its diverse selection of alternative rock and grunge music. Each song resonates with the themes of disillusionment, uncertainty, and self-discovery portrayed in the film.

Melissa Perez
3/10

The Reality Bites soundtrack did not capture the essence of Generation X as portrayed in the film. The music choices felt generic and failed to reflect the angst and disillusionment of the characters.
