Relative Values is a comedy of discriminating taste and dirty little secrets, set in 1952 England. The story revolves around Nigel, Earl of Marshwood (Edward Atterton), who is wooing Hollywood star Miranda Frayle (Jeanne Tripplehorn), much to the dismay of his mother, Countess Felicity of Marshwood (Dame Julie Andrews), and her former love, fellow Hollywood star Don Lucas (William Baldwin).
Right before the engagement party at Marshwood, Dora Moxton "Moxie" (Sophie Thompson), the Countess' personal maid and best friend, drops a bombshell - Miranda is her estranged sister. Frederick Crestwell (Stephen Fry), the Countess' butler, quickly comes up with a plan to handle the situation.
However, chaos ensues when an inebriated Lucas shows up at Marshwood to speak with Miranda, throwing everything into disarray.
