Some Voices

Synopsis

Some Voices is a film centered around the character Ray (Daniel Craig), who has schizophrenia. The story kicks off with Ray being discharged from a psychiatric hospital. His devoted brother Pete (David Morrissey) picks him up and takes him to his new home, the spare room in Pete's West London flat. Pete, a chef who runs a café inherited from his father, now has the added responsibility of caring for Ray and ensuring he takes his medication to control the voices in his head.

Ray, an intelligent and outgoing young man, quickly develops feelings for Laura (Kelly Macdonald), a Glaswegian girl going through a breakup with her abusive boyfriend (Peter McDonald). Laura is drawn to Ray's spontaneity and childlike sense of fun. Meanwhile, Pete starts a relationship with Mandy (Julie Graham).

As Ray's romance with Laura flourishes, he starts to resist taking his medication, believing in the healing power of love instead. This decision leads to disastrous consequences for all three relationships: between the brothers, Ray and Laura, and Pete and Mandy. While Ray's condition causes disruption and distress to those around him, it's only a fraction of the turmoil he experiences.

In the end, the film revolves around the relationship between the brothers. Despite his frustrations and resentments, Pete's unwavering love and dedication prevent his brother from serious harm.
