Synopsis

Stray Bullet

At the end of summer in 1976, in a northern suburb of Beirut, Noha is about to get married. Her family is relieved, as she is taking her last chance, before she would become a spinster like her older sister. Everything is going as expected until, on a Sunday, Noha changes her mind about the wedding and decides to meet up with her ex-lover Joseph. Events of this day will change the family's life forever.

The cast includes:

  • Nadine Labaki as Noha
  • Badih Bou Chacra as Assaf (the brother)
  • Nazih Youssef as Jean (the fiancé)
  • Takla Chammoun as Layla (the sister)
  • Rodrigue Sleiman Joseph (the ex-lover)
  • Inaam Germanos as Assaf's mother

Hachem wrote Noha's role as part of a challenge to meet the requirements for acting by Labaki. The movie was shot using Super 16 mm film to correspond to the grainy quality of the 70's movies.

The soundtrack of Stray Bullet perfectly captures the emotional depth and tension of the film's narrative. Each piece of music enhances the scenes and adds layers of complexity to the characters' emotions. The haunting melodies and evocative instrumentation create a powerful atmosphere that stays with you long after the movie ends.

The use of traditional Lebanese music in the soundtrack of Stray Bullet adds a unique cultural richness to the film. The fusion of contemporary soundscapes with traditional melodies creates a mesmerizing auditory experience that immerses the audience in the setting of 1976 Beirut. The music not only complements the story but also serves as a character in its own right, enhancing the overall impact of the film.

Kenneth Lopez

The music in Stray Bullet is not just background noise, but a crucial element that elevates the film to a whole new level. It evokes a sense of nostalgia and melancholy that lingers long after the movie ends.

Another criticism I have is that the soundtrack seemed disconnected from the setting and time period of the movie. Instead of evoking the nostalgic atmosphere of 1976 Beirut, the music felt generic and out of place, missing an opportunity to immerse the audience in the story's historical context.

One negative opinion I have about the soundtrack of Stray Bullet is that it lacked emotional depth and failed to capture the intensity of the events portrayed in the film. The music felt repetitive and uninspired, failing to enhance the overall viewing experience.

The haunting melodies in the soundtrack beautifully convey the inner turmoil and conflicts faced by Noha and the other characters. It adds a layer of complexity to the narrative, making the viewing experience even more engaging.
