Swing Girls is a story about a group of school girls in northern Japan who are stuck in class for the summer and find nothing interesting. One girl, Tomoko, encourages her classmate to deliver lunches for the school brass band cheering for their school baseball team, allowing them to get out of class for a day.
Tomoko and her friends realize that helping Takuo's plan to fight the next big game could give them an opportunity to skip math class all summer. Takuo, who doesn't have enough members to form a brass band, decides to turn the girls into a big band swing group.
Tomoko buys a saxophone and starts to learn on her own, with the help of Takuo, she gets the other girls involved. They begin to practice and slowly learn how to play, and thus, the Swing Girls are born.
