Synopsis

The Catechism Cataclysm is a story about thirty-something Billy Smoortser, a junior parish priest who often fails to display a true understanding of his job. His behavior, reminiscent of a teenager, frustrates the senior parish priest, Father O'Herlihy.

When Father O'Herlihy forces Billy to take a vacation to refocus on his mission, Billy decides to go on a river canoe trip with Robbie Shoemaker, his sister's high school boyfriend and former idol. Robbie, a member of a death metal band and a writer, is the inspiration behind many of Billy's stories to his parishioners.

As Billy and Robbie reconnect on the trip, they realize they have different needs and desires. Their journey takes a surprising turn when they get lost and encounter a group of three individuals named Huck Finn, Tom Sawyer, and Jim, who are on a quest for freedom.

This unexpected adventure proves to be life-altering for Billy and Robbie, leading to revelations and a deeper understanding of themselves and each other.
