Synopsis

1668. The jihad is in its heat in the Southeastern Europe. A corps of janissaries is commissioned to the Rhodope Mountains under the command of Karaibrahim.

At the time, he was, as all the janissaries were, kidnapped from his Bulgarian family, raised as a Muslim, trained to be a ferocious warrior and convert infidels to Islam in a most brutal way. His cruelty stuns even local Ottoman ruler.

He stops at nothing but the resistance of some of the locals is invincible. The struggle is half a success, there are many converts, the death toll is heavy, but all the Bulgarian keep their language and traditions on.

1/10

The overall composition and arrangement of the music in Time of Violence lack nuance and subtlety, often resorting to bombastic and cliché cues that overshadow the quieter moments in the film. The repetitive motifs and predictable melodies make the soundtrack forgettable and fail to leave a lasting impression on the viewer.

Donald Perez
8/10

The dynamic range of the music, from intense battle sequences to quieter moments of reflection, showcases the versatility and skill of the composers in crafting a score that complements the narrative arc of the movie.

Robert Walker
2/10

The use of traditional Turkish and Bulgarian instruments in the soundtrack comes across as forced and artificial, rather than adding authenticity to the film's depiction of the Rhodope Mountains during the period of the jihad. The instrumentation feels disconnected from the narrative, failing to create a cohesive and engaging listening experience.

Sarah Williams

The thematic motifs present in the soundtrack beautifully mirror the internal struggles of the characters, providing a cohesive and resonant musical backdrop that elevates the overall viewing experience of Time of Violence.

Joseph Green

The soundtrack for Time of Violence fails to capture the emotional depth and complexity of the characters in the film. The music feels generic and uninspired, lacking the ability to enhance the storytelling and immerse the audience in the historical setting.
