An American archaeology professor, Michael Nazzaro, has come to Russia on an exchange program that has him teaching history at the University of Moscow. He has ulterior motives, however. He himself is the descendant of a Templar knight. He dreams of locating the treasure of the Knights of Templar that was hidden when the king of France had them disbanded. In his possession is a 16-century book that has been passed down from one generation to another.
Michael has learned that a Russian street racing celebrity named Wolf has a medallion that is said to be the key to deciphering the treasure's location that is hidden in another ancient text that he is certain is hidden in Moscow, the Gospel of Jacques de Molay. Michael, a West Pointer, also enjoys street racing. So, he engages with Wolf for some drag racing on Moscow's streets. He is financially equipped from an archaeological find in Colombia prior to coming to Moscow such that he offers a bet of $50,000 for the medallion in a drag race with Wolf.
Although the professor fails to win the medallion, he and Wolf recognize kindred spirits in each other. Against this developing relationship, the Moscow police are after a Colombian drug cartel and Russian mafia alliance. They suspect Michael may be part of this because of his Columbian work. Also, a well-known historian, a descendant of a Persecutor of the Knights, has also been following the professor in order to destroy his find.
It takes the skills of the sly Michael and the strong Wolf to outsmart both the drug cartel and knight persecutor.
