In the occupied France of 1941, Arthur lives happily, far from the drama, with his maternal grandparents in Gironde. His mother, an opera singer, and his father, a doctor, were in Paris. Not for much longer, since the pressure of the occupying forces forced Arthur's father, a Jew, to go into hiding in Gironde. After discovering, by chance, his presence in the house, Arthur had to be temporarily removed so as not to put his parents at risk.
