Synopsis

Although living a comfortable life in Salon-de-Provence, a charming town in the South of France, Julie has been feeling depressed for a while.

To please her, Philippe Abrams, a post office administrator, her husband, tries to obtain a transfer to a seaside town, on the French Riviera, at any cost.

The trouble is that he is caught red-handed while trying to scam an inspector.

Philippe is immediately banished to the distant unheard of town of Bergues, in the Far North of France.

Leaving his child and wife behind, the crucified man leaves for his frightening destination, a dreadfully cold place inhabited by hard-drinking, unemployed rednecks, speaking an incomprehensible dialect called Ch'ti.

Philippe soon realizes that all these ideas were nothing but prejudices and that Bergues is not synonymous with hell...

Patricia Jones
3/10

The choice of music in certain scenes feels out of place and disrupts the overall tone of the film. The jarring transitions between different musical styles detract from the storytelling and make it difficult for viewers to fully immerse themselves in the narrative.

Susan Taylor
5/10

The contrast in musical styles between the two locations, from the sunny and lively tunes of the French Riviera to the more somber and melancholic notes of Bergues, effectively highlights the cultural differences portrayed in the film.

Timothy Thomas
5/10

The soundtrack successfully builds tension and suspense during key moments in the plot, adding to the overall impact of the narrative and keeping the audience engaged.

Margaret Robinson
6/10

The incorporation of local Ch'ti music and dialect into the soundtrack adds authenticity to the portrayal of the region and its people, creating a more immersive viewing experience for the audience.

Susan Martin
5/10

The use of music to convey Philippe's internal turmoil and struggles adds depth to the storytelling, making the audience empathize with his character and the challenges he faces.

Donald Perez
1/10

The soundtrack of Welcome to the Sticks fails to capture the emotional depth and complexity of the main character's struggles with depression. The music lacks the subtlety and nuance needed to enhance the audience's understanding of Julie's inner turmoil.

Carol Harris
6/10

Overall, the soundtrack of Welcome to the Sticks plays a crucial role in enhancing the storytelling, bringing the characters and locations to life through its carefully crafted melodies and emotional resonance.

Mark Garcia
4/10

Despite the film's setting in a quaint town in the South of France and later in a cold, unfamiliar place in the Far North, the soundtrack fails to effectively convey the contrast between these two environments. The lack of distinctive musical motifs for each location diminishes the impact of the film's themes of cultural differences and personal growth.

Melissa Roberts
5/10

The music enhances the setting of the film, with melodies that evoke the charm of Salon-de-Provence in the South of France, as well as the cold and unwelcoming atmosphere of Bergues in the Far North.

Donna Jones
5/10

The soundtrack of Welcome to the Sticks effectively captures the emotional journey of the characters, from the initial feelings of depression and desperation to the eventual realization of prejudice and stereotypes.
