Synopsis

When the Light Comes

Trapper Lars is living on Spitsbergen, an island far north of Norway. His life consists mainly of hunting and fishing for survival. Being in peace with his environment, the sudden arrival of Ellen, a student, is quite a disturbing event. Lars, who permitted her to visit and live with him during the dark and cold winter in the first place, soon is challenged by her attraction and also by her strict will only to gain experience. The relation between the two unalike persons - who don't even have a language in common - is stressed from the beginning, and when Ragnar, another trapper, comes over, the situation is about to change.

Kenneth Gonzalez
9/10

Each musical cue in the film perfectly enhances the emotional depth of the characters and their relationships. The composer's use of subtle motifs and atmospheric sounds helps to convey the tension and complexity of the interactions between Lars, Ellen, and Ragnar. The music truly elevates the storytelling, adding layers of nuance and depth to the narrative.

Margaret King
9/10

The soundtrack of When the Light Comes beautifully captures the remote and rugged setting of Spitsbergen. The haunting melodies and sparse instrumentation create a sense of isolation and introspection that perfectly mirrors Trapper Lars' solitary existence on the island.

Amanda Anderson
4/10

The soundtrack of When the Light Comes failed to capture the raw and isolated beauty of Spitsbergen. Instead of evoking the harsh and desolate environment that Trapper Lars inhabits, the music felt generic and lacked depth, making it difficult to truly immerse myself in the story.

The soundtrack's ability to evoke a sense of desolation, beauty, and introspection through its melodies and arrangements adds a layer of depth and richness to the overall viewing experience of When the Light Comes.

The use of traditional Nordic instruments in the music adds an authentic and cultural depth to the soundtrack, enhancing the audience's immersion into the remote Arctic world of the characters.

The soundtrack of When the Light Comes perfectly captures the haunting and isolated atmosphere of Spitsbergen, setting the tone for the film's setting and storyline.

Dorothy Lewis
1/10

The musical choices in When the Light Comes often felt disconnected from the emotional journey of the characters. Instead of enhancing the tension and complexity of the relationships between Lars, Ellen, and Ragnar, the soundtrack felt misplaced and at times even distracting, diminishing the impact of crucial scenes in the film.

Edward Perez
5/10

On the other hand, I found some of the musical themes in the soundtrack to be repetitive and lacking in emotional depth. While the music successfully conveys the harsh environment and isolation of the characters, it falls short in evoking the complex emotions and relationships depicted in the film.
