Synopsis

Woman Walks Ahead is a historical drama film based on the true story of Catherine Weldon, a widowed artist from New York who travels to the Dakota Territory in the late 19th century to paint a portrait of Chief Sitting Bull.

As Weldon becomes more involved in the Lakota community and their struggle for land rights, she finds herself at odds with the US government and the military who are determined to force the Native Americans off their land.

Woman Walks Ahead explores themes of cultural identity, friendship, and the power of art to bridge divides between different communities.

The film stars Jessica Chastain as Catherine Weldon and Michael Greyeyes as Chief Sitting Bull, and was directed by Susanna White.
